Christmas 2010

It is hard to believe that Christmas 2010 was Katelynn's FIFTH Christmas, and Tyler's first. Gene and I were abysmal failures when it came to taking pictures this year. Thank goodness my dad and brother-in-law got some good ones. We spent a couple of nights in Weatherford practicing our laziness skills, followed by an enormous Korean dinner out with Gene's mom on the 26th.

Despite trying to beat it into KK's head that Christmas is about Jesus, the fact that she did in fact receive approximately 500 gifts from friends and family countered this message err... just slightly. She told me very enthusiastically on more than one occasion that Christmas was her FAVORITE HOLIDAY EVER because "I GET SO MANY PRESENTS!" The magic of Santa really hit home for her this year. We have said little about Santa but she has picked up on him and his gift giving nonetheless.

This created an interesting situation. Normally I would not have been too worried about a stocking for 3-month old Tyler but I realized that big sister would probably be looking to see what Santa brought for him! So TyTy got a stocking full of baby food, plus a rattle or two for good measure!
Katelynn's main present was a Disney princess bike. She did not seem as excited about it as I would have liked, but she has seemed to enjoy riding it when we have taken it out since Christmas. One of her favorite gifts was the "play foam" from my Aunt Doris. She has become quite the lover of crafts these days, and the play foam is great because it doesn't dry out. So she can make all sorts of creations and leave them on permanent display throughout our home. She also loved the huge, turquoise tutu that Nanna and PopPop got for her.
All in all it was a relaxing Christmas, and very fun with a four-year-old in the house.

My New Years' Resolution

Life is moving way too fast. It seems that despite an effort to minimize our commitments, Gene and I turn around and another week is gone. Next thing you know, my kids are going to be in college. In the meantime, I have let over a month pass without a single blog post. I mean, seriously, who is that young lady in that picture? Oh - yeah - that's my daughter Katelynn. When did she get to be 4 years old, going on 14?

This blog is important to me because it is where I capture at least a small fraction of the special little memories of life, especially memories of my kiddos while they are so little.... and sweet... and funny. Yet caring for them at the not-so-young age of 36 is just darn exhausting, so here I am with 45 days + and no blog posts.

But I have frittered away more time than I should on Facebook, watching The Bachelor on Monday nights, etcetera. So there are wasted moments of time when I could have been capturing some precious memories. So I decided that here on January 30, 2011 I must set a belated New Years' Resolution. I will keep up with this blog - at least a few posts a month! And when I am 55 and an empty-nester, I know I will sit and read these posts with a tear-stained, happy face....
